In the 1800s, the downtown area was the heart of the American city, and Wooster was no exception. In this small area, residents could find everything they needed; food, clothing, entertainment, tools, medical care, farm supplies, and much more. This exhibit explores what living and shopping in downtown Wooster would have been like.
In the middle of the 20th century, the development of the north end with its malls and big box stores, threatened downtown’s status as the center of the community and of the economy. Luckily, Wooster locals decided to take action to preserve and improve the downtown area, giving us the beautiful downtown we know and love today.
